Portland passion gives them dream strart in debut home game of their MLS campaign

The Portland Timbers have waited ling for tonight’s home opener and proved the wait was worth the while.
Just being promoted to the MLS, they knew they had to prove something after losing two and tying one of their first three games of the season.
Former FC Dallas striker Kenny Cooper scored what was assumed to be Portland’s first ever home goal when he headed in a well placed corner kick but the goal was called off due to an apparent foul on the goal keeper even though he was not fouled.
However the breakthrough came at the 29th minute when Perlaza cut past the defender and struck into the bottom right corner of the goal past Chicago keeper Johnson to send the crowd into an uproar.
Just nine minutes later left back Wallace strikes form the top of the 18 yard box also into the bottom right corner to give his side a 2-0 home lead gifting Portland with a dream beginning during their home debut
The second half comes around and a cross is slapped away by Chicago keeper Johnson with the ball falling in front of first goal scorer Perlaza who slams the ball into the goal from close range to give Portland a whopping 3-0 lead.
Portland would later hit the crossbar with Chicago following that opportunity with Oduro striking the ball towards goal only to see it hit out for a corner.
Chicago finally make their breakthrough when Marco Pappa hits the ball hard and watches it deflect in off of the Portland defense.

Then nine minutes from time, the Guatemalan international scores a goal for himself to cut Portland's lead down to 1 with less then ten minutes left to pay.

However the home side put any signs of a complete comeback away when they scored just three minutes later when Robinson scored an own goal giving Portland a 4-2 lead which is how the game ended.

The home side played brilliantly from the beginning and their hard work paid off. They played their first ever game in front of their home fans in the MLS and made everyone proud against a tough Chicago team.
