Major League Soccer Rapidly Approaching

Major League Soccer returns on March 15, 2011 with two of the most adored teams squaring off at Qwest Field in Seattle as the Seattle Sounders host the Los Angeles Galaxy. Most of the European fans may not look at this game as a highly anticipated one but if they were to ask a hardcore MLS fan, they would no longer be able to underestimate.

Soccer is rapidly growing all around the United States as kids and adults of all ages are joining leagues or playing in pick up games not only for a work out but to gain a taste of the beautiful game. Basketball, Footbal, Baseball, and Hockey dominate the Sports scene in the US for now, but sooner or later Soccer will be right up there among the elite.

Seattle’s first game will be at home against LA on that Tuesday March 15, 2011 and their second game will be away against the New York Red Bulls who will be playing their first fixture of the season. LA will play their second game against the New England Revolution at home.

The current champions Colorado will have the honor of being the first opponent for MLS new comer the Portland Timbers in Colorado.

This year the Portland Timbers and Vancouver WhiteCaps are the two additions to the league so each team will end up playing at least one or two more regular season games. Seattle joined the league in 2009 and Philadelphia joined in 2010. This year’s two additions should add even more excitement to the league. The league grows every year and with top leagues such as the ones Europe has to offer, the MLS should be a world-class competitive league in no time. Tune into the season opener on March 15 on ESPN at 9:30 p.m. Eastern.
