The 2011 season of Major League Soccer has kicked off with the Seattle Sounders hosting the Los Angeles Galaxy at Qwest field. Both teams hoped to start the season off brightly but the away side ended up with the three points.
Chances were taken by both teams but during the 58th minute L.A. took the lead thanks to a fine strike by Brazilian born Juninho. He shot the ball from over twenty yards out and former US keeper was able to get his hand on the ball only to see it still go into his goal.
Los Angeles had US star Landon Donovan and former England midfielder David Beckham but they were not involved in the build up to their goal however Donovan did hit the crossbar with a shot from 19 yards out. Beckham had a few nice crosses but the recipients couldn't convert into goal.
Seattle's fans were cheering during the entire game but it was not enough to stop the Los Angeles Galaxy.
L.A.'s next stop is at home against the New England Revolution on March 20th. Seattle will play away at the New York Redbulls in their season opener hoping for a better result. Both games will be difficult as teams will look to make a statement and send a message to the rest of the league.
