Real Madrid edge past slumping Sevilla

Earlier tonight at the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid played host against Sevilla in a game that was full of action. The score only reads 1-0 but the determination and anger of both teams were shown. The first half ended 0-0 and the referee did not have to do much but then the second half arrived.

Ricardo Carvalho who wears the number 2 for Madrid and plays as a center back was given a red card which ejected him from teh game. The home side were down to ten men against Sevilla’s 11. With Barcelona winning yesterday and opening up a 5 point lead at the summit of La Liga, Real knew they had to provide some Magic and do it quickly.

After some sloppy plays and decent passing of the ball, Real finally were able to find the breakthrough when Mesut Ozil crossed the ball from the right side of the 18 yard box to Angel Di Maria who controlled the ball and found himself in a one on one situation with the goal keeper who was way off his line. Angel moved to the right with the keeper following him and then he pulled back to the left and shot the ball which deflected off the keeper and crept into the goal to make it 1-0.

Afterwards there was some heated tension between the two sides which saw Sergio Ramos of Real Madrid booked with a yellow card and Sevilla’s Dabo ejected form the game after receiving a red card due to a nasty foul on Di Maria. Besides the unfortunate foul play, the game provided a good result for Real who go into the winter break just 2 points behind arch rivals FC Barcelona who triumphed 5-1 at RCD Espanyol.

Sevilla have now lost 5 games in a row and really need to find a way to boost their confidence after this tough away loss playing a majority of the game with an extra man. Real Madrid will get the boost they need when Brazilian play maker Ricardo Kaka returns from a very long injury not playing since the 2010 FIFA World Cup a good five months ago.

After the winter break La Liga action will resume and it will continue to be a two way race at the top between Barcelona and Real Madrid unless third placed Villareal can find a way to catch up. The next game for Real Madrid will be away at Villarreal and this will prove to be a very tough test for the visitors. Sevilla’s next game will be at home against Osasuna. The second half of the season will be very exciting as teams will look to bring their best to the field to get the results they require. Stay tuned for more news on La Liga only on AreySportsNews
