The Knicks went into Memphis hoping and playing for yet another win without their veteran point guard Chauncey Billups. They are led by Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire and they are playing better than they have been in recent years.
The Knicks were the better side for most of the game as they had a 14 point lead early in the fourth quarter. However, after a few turnovers and fouls, the Memphis Grizzlies fought their way back to tie the game with a minute left. The home crowd chanted their team back into the game but they were silenced moments later when New York's new pride and joy Carmelo Anthony nailed a gorgeous jumper to give them a 110-108 lead with 5/10 of a second left. Memphis inbounded with an attempt of an alley-oop but the Knicks defense swatted the ball away from the basket giving them the victory.
The Knicks built a strong lead but after they went up 14-17 points, they coughed up their lead due to a lack of defense thinking the game was pretty much over. Memphis played their way back but the Knicks found a way to win and they executed it perfectly.
The Knicks will play in Dallas tomorrow night against the Mavericks at 9:30 p.m. Eastern on TNT.
